As you can see in the above picture, our hair which we are seeing above our skin is called as hair shaft, which is surrounded by many structures. Lets know some basic names and details
- HAIR SHAFT : This part is the part we see above the skin [Hair shaft is a non living component]
- HAIR FOLLICLE :It is the primary structure from which hair grow [Hair follicle is the living component]
- HAIR BULB : Hair follicle enlarges at the base to form Hair bulb, where active production of hair begins
- HAIR PAPILLA : Situated at the base of the hair bulb that supplies BLOOD and NUTRIENTS to hair

- TERMINAL HAIR : Hair which is more visible to our eye, which is darker and thicker is called as TERMINAL HAIR
- VELLUS HAIR : Shorter, finer hair that looks like hairless is called as VELLUS HAIR

Main function of hair is thermoregulation and protection, by maintaining temperature through retaining heat or preventing cold. Hair can also provide camouflage and serves as a sexual attraction. hair can act as a sense organ. Hair has a critical role in once identity and self evaluation of both the genders.
As we now know a brief idea about hair structure , types of hair and functions, we can go into our hair types
KNOW YOUR HAIR TYPE: TYPES OF HAIR
There are four types of hair depending on the curl pattern on different parts of your head, and hair follicle determines the amount of curl in your hair. The more oval or asymmetrical the follicle is, the curlier the hair will be. And genetics determines the hair type

This types are subcategorized into three types each that are A,B,C
| Hair type | Subcategory: A | Subcategory : B | Subcategory : C |
| Type 1 | straight and lacks volume. incredibly shiny and soft | thicker than 1A and has slightly more volume | straight but few waves and it is most coarse and thickest hair |
| Type 2 | thin, wavy hair with loose and elongated S-shaped waves | shorter and more distinct waves as compared to 2A | thick and most defined waves with some turns and twists in between |
| Type 3 | big loose spirals and curls which are smoother than the others | defined ringlets with a good amount of bounce | look similar to corkscrew and are tighter in shape and has most volume |
| Type 4 | softer and has more coiled s-curls | curls that form z pattern | extremely wiry and mostly z shaped and kinked together |
